It’s been 28 years since the Winnipeg Blue Bombers won the Grey Cup. They hope to end the drought this year, but first have to get past the Calgary Stampeders in Sunday’s CFL Western Final.
We dove deep into our vault of negatives to mark the Bombers’ championship quest. These rare colour images were taken by Winnipeg Free Press photographer Bill Rose at the 1962 Grey Cup game between the Bombers and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. The game, affectionately called the Fog Bowl, was halted in the fourth quarter on Dec. 1, after a thick fog rolled in off Lake Ontario and enveloped Toronto’s Exhibition Stadium. The game resumed the following day, with the Bombers winning 28-27.
Rose was using a medium format camera to take these photos.
