Fear not, Buck Pierce fans, the veteran quarterback will be in a Blue Bombers uniform this season.

The local CFL club announced the re-signing of the popular pivot Thursday morning. Pierce was scheduled to become a free agent Feb. 15 at 11:01 p.m. Winnipeg time, but as expected, he came to an agreement with the Bombers.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The signing announcement comes one day after the Bombers locked up backup quarterback Joey Elliott to a contract extension. The third free-agent quarterback, Alex Brink, remains without a deal at this time.

Pierce, 30, joined the Bombers prior to the 2010 campaign after a five-year stint with the B.C. Lions. He missed all but five games with the Blue and Gold that year, as injuries to his knee and elbow sidelined him for most of the season.

Winnipeg went 4-14 and missed the playoffs that year.

Last season, the New Mexico State product managed to stay healthy for the most part, putting up career-high numbers in starts (16), completions (261), attempts (411), passing yards (3,348) and rushing yards (324). While those passing numbers were in the bottom half of the league (when matched up against other starters in the CFL), Pierce managed to lead the Bombers to a Grey Cup appearance.

In a statement, Bombers GM Joe Mack, fresh off of having his own contract extended by the club Thursday, had this to say about Pierce:

"We are thrilled that we were able to get a deal done with Buck who is a tremendous competitor on the field and a great ambassador for this organization in the community. His experience and leadership is invaluable in our locker room and we look forward to having him return in 2012 and help our team compete for a Grey Cup championship."

Pierce has thrown for 13,162 yards and 68 touchdowns in his seven-year CFL career.
