Welcome to the Winnipeg Free Press Photo Store

We’ve been ‘there for you’ in Manitoba and beyond since 1872. Our reporters, photographers and editors – the biggest newsroom in two provinces – chronicle wars, upheavals and disasters, along with tales of personal triumph and success – your stories. Much of this archived material is available to you through our Library Services department. This is where you can purchase copies of many of the photos from the newspaper and our website, as well as videos and copies of pages. We’ll also help you find stories, obituaries and other material. It’s simple to use and economical.

You can purchase a copy of any staff–shot video that you see on our website. Videos cost $25 for up to two minutes. These are for personal use only. View Copyright Information.

Page reproductions

Free Press pages can capture important moments in yours or someone else’s life. Full–size commemorative page reproductions from 1874 can be ordered from our Archives site, archives.winnipegfreepress.com, on acid–free, cotton, double–weight paper, for $29.95 plus shipping and handling. Pages published from 2004 to the present can also be obtained directly from the Free Press library.

Those pages are available in two sizes:

• PDF, emailed, for $17.50
• 11x17, reproduced on glossy photo paper for $25; or
• Full-size, on display grade paper, for $150.

The latter are well suited for showing off company achievements in offices and reception areas, and can be hung without the need for licensing.

Editorial cartoons

Winnipeg Free Press cartoonists have been commenting daily over many decades on key political and social issues, using only their drawing pencils and pointed wit.

The cartoons are available for purchase, starting at $10 for an electronic copy.

Historic article, obituary and photo research

You have three options:

1. Take advantage of our website (www.winnipegfreepress.com) to conduct your own free research on historic articles, obituaries and photos that have appeared in the Winnipeg Free Press. You can uncover a wealth of information by using the search function located at the top right–hand corner of any page; simply type in the words, numbers and/or phrases to find what you are looking for. The search sifts through the many thousands of articles contained in our online database. You can also use Passages (www.passagesmb.com) to search for obituaries by name and date of publication from 1999 to the present, and wfpCelebrations (www.wfpcelebrations.com) to find people featured in more recent social notices.
2. Our Archives website (archives.winnipegfreepress.com) can be used to search through more than 2 million newspaper pages online, dating all the way back to 1874. It is available at a nominal cost. The pages are fully searchable by name, keyword and date, making it easy for you to quickly explore historical content, research your family history, or simply read about a person or event of interest. Full–sized prints of newspaper pages can be ordered directly from this site. Details are on the site.
3. Our library staff can also assist you with more complicated searches that might include Archives and our clipping files as well as online and other resources. Please call the library for rates, at (204) 697–7291, or email libraryservices@freepress.mb.ca.
