US unseals indictment accusing company owned by Chinese government of trade secrets theft
SAN FRANCISCO - Federal prosecutors are accusing a company owned by the Chinese government of conspiring with a California couple to steal trade secrets from Dupont Co.
The indictment unsealed Wednesday alleges that Pangang Group stole the secrets of a widely used manufacturing ingredient used to add a white tint to products.
Pangang is a government-owned steel manufacturer in China's Sichuan province. Three other subsidiaries of Pangang also were indicted.
Walter and Christina Liew of Orinda were previously charged in the case.
According to the latest indictment, the Liews secured trade secrets from former DuPont employees. They allegedly reaped millions of dollars when they sold them to Pangang, which was planning to build a new production plant.
