'This is so silly': Mom and Dad tell story of baby Zade, born on side of Highway 59
Zade Friesen was born on the side of Highway 59 Friday morning.
Zade Friesen is resting comfortably in the arms of his mom this afternoon – just hours after being delivered on the side of Highway 59 this morning.
The baby boy was born just south of the city near Grande Pointe, with the help of paramedics from the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service.
Zade's dad, Arlin Friesen, says mom and baby are doing fine.
But it was a pretty frantic ride into the city earlier for the couple. Beth Friesen was in labour with her second child and they were trying to get to a Winnipeg hospital from their home in Niverville.
"We left about 6:30 a.m. but my wife told me to pull over because the baby was coming," Arlin Friesen told the Free Press. "I thought I was going to have to do it."
Friesen said they called 911 and paramedics from Winnipeg arrived about 10 minutes later.
Beth was moved into the ambulance, but just about two kilometres up the road they pulled over to the shoulder of the highway and Zade was delivered.
